America the Beautiful Quarters - Yosemite National Park
Posted by Tomi in 2010, America the Beautiful Quarters, United States on October 15, 2010
The Yosemite National Park quarter is the third of 2010 and the third overall in the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program.
Yosemite National Park, one of the first wilderness parks in the United States, is best known for its waterfalls, but within its nearly 1,200 square miles are deep valleys, grand meadows and ancient giant sequoias.
Over 3.7 million people visit Yosemite each year: most spend their time in the seven square miles (18 km2) of Yosemite Valley. Designated a World Heritage Site in 1984, Yosemite is internationally recognized for its spectacular biological diversity. Almost 95% of the park is designated wilderness.
